CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Parkland College is expanding its support for sustainable transportation with the addition of two new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations on campus. Located in the B7 parking lot, the stations were installed with the help of a $5,000 grant from the Illinois Green Economy Network (IGEN), which the college receives annually as part of its membership in the organization.

According to Parkland Physical Plant Director Troy Burns, the college has used IGEN grants over the past several years to steadily grow its EV infrastructure. “We’ve been working to create more access and convenience for EV owners on campus,” Burns said.

The two new stations join three existing chargers in the same B7 lot, as well as four located in front of the Parkhill Applied Technology Center, bringing the total number of campus charging stations to nine.

All chargers are Level 2 with standard J1772 plug-ins, compatible with most electric vehicles. Tesla drivers will need an adapter to use them. The stations are available to Parkland students, staff, and visitors on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Parkland officials encourage EV users to be mindful of others by only occupying a charging space while actively charging.
