PIATT COUNTY, IL (Chambana Today) – Whether you’re a seasoned home canner or just curious about turning fresh produce into jams and pickles, the University of Illinois Extension invites you to “Preserve at Home,” a hands-on workshop series offered this June in DeWitt, Macon, and Piatt counties.

Led by Nutrition and Wellness Educator Caitlin Mellendorf, the workshops will cover a wide range of food preservation methods, including water-bath and pressure canning, freezing, drying, and fermentation. Participants will gain access to essential food safety information and practical tips for preserving garden or farmers market produce.

Everyone, from newbies to seasoned pros, will learn up-to-date information and new techniques for safe home canning and preserving,” said Mellendorf.

Workshop Schedule:

  • June 3: DeWitt County Extension Office, 1160 IL 54 Suite B, Clinton (register by May 30)
  • June 10: Piatt County Extension Office, 210 S. Market St., Monticello (register by June 6)
  • June 17: Macon County Extension Office, 3351 N. President Howard Brown Blvd., Decatur (register by June 13)

Sessions run from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. and include recipe samples and a free dial gauge pressure canner lid and gauge accuracy test. Each workshop costs $5, and advance registration is required. Sign up online at go.illinois.edu/HomePreserve or call 217-877-6042.
