CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Less than a month after five of its seven members were sworn in, the newly restructured Champaign Unit 4 school board is preparing to cut ties with Superintendent Shelia Boozer, nearly a year before her contract is set to expire.
The board has scheduled a special meeting for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, where members will vote on two major items, according to an agenda released Tuesday. The first is a separation agreement that would terminate Boozer’s contract immediately. Boozer, now in her fourth year as superintendent, had previously been set to serve through 2026.
The second vote is to appoint Dan Casillas, the district’s executive director of facilities and services, as acting superintendent. Casillas would serve in this temporary role until an interim superintendent is hired.
The board’s long-term plan remains unchanged: a full search for Boozer’s permanent replacement is underway, with the new superintendent expected to begin on July 1, 2026. Just two weeks ago, the board voted to issue a request for proposals to firms interested in managing the superintendent search.
The developments mark a significant shift in district leadership and come at a time of transition for the Unit 4 school board itself. No further details on the separation agreement have been released publicly.
