CHAMPAIGN, ILĀ (Chambana Today) – Last night, the Champaign Fire Department was dispatched in response to a fire in a condemned multi-family apartment building.
Firefighters arrived at the building, located on the 100 block of Kenwood Road, at 10:31 p.m. on Saturday, July 5. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire.
Firefighters responded as a result of a report from a passerby of a fire in the three-story building. Once on the scene, crews reported smoke and fire coming from a third-story apartment and quickly upgraded the incident to a working fire. Firefighters started to attack the fire with the deck gun on the fire engine and then transitioned into the building with multiple hose lines.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, and fire investigators remain on the scene to conduct their investigation. There were no firefighter injuries reported.
