CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Giertz Gallery at Parkland College will launch its annual Art and Design Faculty Exhibition on Monday, August 18, showcasing an array of creative work from faculty artists, including longtime photography and video instructor Peg Shaw, who is set to retire in spring 2026.

The exhibition highlights the talents of eight faculty members: Bryan Heaton, Travis Keller, Paula McCarty, Melinda McIntosh, Josh Schutz, Denise Seif, Peg Shaw, and Matthew Watt. Works on display will include painting, drawing, ceramics, metalsmithing, photography, and video.

A public reception will be held on Thursday, August 21, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., with opening remarks at 6:15 p.m. by Dr. Isabel Scarborough, Chair of Arts, Media, and Social Sciences. Shaw will follow with a gallery talk, reflecting on her decades of contributions to the Parkland arts community.

Originally from Oak Park, Shaw earned her MFA in photography from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and her BFA in painting from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Known for her richly textured multimedia work, Shaw incorporates photography, video, and unconventional materials like charcoal, thread, petals, and glass.

Her distinguished career has earned her numerous honors, including the Illinois Community College Trustees Association Outstanding Full-Time Faculty Award, a 40 North Artist ACE Award, and national exhibition features. She also curated acclaimed group shows such as Shift (2013) and Flaw (2024).

The exhibition will remain open through Saturday, September 27. Fall gallery hours are Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Saturday, noon to 3 p.m. The gallery will be closed on Labor Day, September 1.

Located at 2012 Round Barn Road, the gallery can be accessed via Parking Lot M6, entrance X-7, with signs leading to the upper level of the first floor.
