URBANA, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The Champaign-Urbana Black Authors Book Fair will host its first annual celebration of Black creativity and community on Saturday, November 15, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Independent Media Center, 202 S. Broadway Avenue, Urbana.
This free community event invites guests to experience an afternoon of books, art, music, and connection, all centered on the mission to uplift and empower Black authors, artists, and families.
Visitors will enjoy a variety of activities including free lunch, professional headshots, a poetry workshop, and a Kids Corner featuring crafts, reading activities, and a face painter. The fair will also showcase live performances from local singers, dancers, poets, and other artists, reflecting the depth and vibrancy of the area’s Black creative community.
In a special highlight, No More Bound, LLC will present the 2nd Willow Tree Award to Tyler Marie Brackenridge in recognition of her outstanding commitment to healing, empowerment, and faith-based community service. Additionally, the Legacy Award will honor Ms. Imani Bazzell and Ms. Vernessa Gipson for their decades of dedication to community advocacy, including their role in establishing National African American Parent Involvement Day in Champaign-Urbana in 1995.
The mission of the Champaign-Urbana Black Authors Book Fair is to create a safe, nurturing space that celebrates and amplifies the voices of Black authors and artists. Its vision is to cultivate an inclusive literary and creative community where diverse perspectives inspire understanding, empowerment, and lasting cultural impact.
