BEMENT, Ill. (Chambana Today) — After nearly two days without running water, the Village of Bement saw a much-needed relief on Monday morning as water pressure was fully restored following a water main break that occurred early Saturday morning.

The problem began at approximately 1 a.m. Saturday when the break caused a disruption in the pressure from the village’s water tower, leaving residents without water for both daily use and emergency needs. The lack of water had forced many in the community to adjust, affecting everything from routine activities like flushing toilets and showering to vital needs, such as drinking and cooking.

In response to the outage, the Piatt County Emergency Management Agency, along with local police and fire departments, set up a water distribution point at the Lion’s Club Community Center on Sunday. There, volunteers were handing out bottles of water and filling containers to help residents cope with the shortage. The fire department even brought in a tanker truck, enabling people to collect water to fill their toilets.

In the meantime, Monticello Christian Church opened its doors to provide showers for Bement residents who had been without water for nearly two full days.
