URBANA, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The Annual Festival of Quilts will return to the Cunningham campus on Friday, April 10, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, April 11, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Spiritual Life Center, 1301 N. Cunningham Avenue in Urbana. The two-day event is Cunningham’s signature fundraiser and celebrates a quilt tradition that has offered warmth, comfort and hope to young people for generations.
Proceeds from the Festival of Quilts benefit the nearly 1,000 youth and families Cunningham serves each year. Many youth arrive at Cunningham after experiencing abuse, neglect, trauma or loss. As part of their welcome, each child receives a handmade quilt to keep. Since Cunningham opened in 1895, United Women in Faith and quilters from across Illinois have created thousands of quilts, wrapping young lives in warmth, safety and love.
The Festival of Quilts draws hundreds of visitors annually and features a quilt show with hand- and machine-quilted pieces, including contemporary designs and antique quilts on loan for display. Guests may also shop a quilt sale offering traditional and modern quilts and wall hangings.
Additional attractions include “Centerpieces and Such,” showcasing decorative items supporters have creatively enhanced, a gift shop filled with donated handcrafted items, and a bake sale featuring homemade treats. Campus tours will be offered throughout the event, giving visitors the opportunity to learn more about Cunningham’s mission and ministry.
A suggested donation of $10 per person is requested, with no reservation required. Youth ages 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult ticket.
