CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — A classic of Japanese animated cinema is coming to the local screen later this month.

Head to Virginia Theatre on Saturday, February 21 for ‘My Neighbor Totoro’, a Studio Ghibli film from 1988. The acclaimed animated tale by director Hayao Miyazaki follows the schoolgirl Satsuke and her younger sister, Mei. The pair settles into an old country house with their father and wait for their mother to recover from an illness in an area hospital. As the sisters explore their new home, they encounter and befriend playful spirits in their house and the nearby forest, most notably the massive cuddly creature known as Totoro.

The film is sponsored by Mix 94.5 and Rewind 92.5.

The film is rated G, and runs 86 minutes. It is the winner of the Animage Anime Grand Prix prize, the Mainichi Film Award, and Kinema Junpo Award for Best Film in 1988. 

There will be two different showtimes, with one at 1 p.m., and one at 7 p.m. Doors open 45 minutes before showtime.
