CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The iRead-iCount program helps kindergarten and first grade students who are struggling with literacy and math abilities in Champaign and Urbana primary schools. The program is seeking hundreds of volunteers in the classrooms this fall to work one-on-one with these students.
Volunteers should submit applications by September 6. Approved volunteers sign up online for school choice, day and time preference, and training session. Volunteers will attend one training session and one orientation session at their school. They will spend one hour a week in the classrooms working one-on-one, helping build the students’ basic reading skills.
Volunteers fluent in Spanish and French are encouraged to volunteer at our schools with dual-language programs. For more information on how to sign up as a volunteer, visit
