CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Members of SEIU Local 73 have returned to work today while the are in the process of voting on ratifying a contract agreement reached Monday.  The negotiation team and the University of Illinois came to an agreement, which allows for a three-year contract, raises of $1 per hour in the first year, 90 cents in the second year and 85 cents in the third year. It also includes a $300 sign-on bonus.

Associate Chancellor for Strategic Communications and Marketing, Robin Kaler, says, “Negotiators for the SEIU building and food service employees and for the University have reached tentative agreement on a new contract. Union negotiators say they will recommend it for ratification, and employees will return to work October 1, pending the outcome of a three-day ratification vote. The tentative agreement is consistent with our mutual goal of providing attractive wages in line with the market and making our campus a desirable place to work. We are hopeful members will vote to ratify, and we look forward to working together to serve students, faculty and staff.”

Strikers included the food and building service workers, as well as facilities and service workers.
