CHAMPAIGN COUNTY (Chambana Today) – Illinois State Police (ISP) set up patrols to combat aggressive and unsafe driving along I-57 between October 3-7. The operation started at milepost zero in Alexander County and went up to milepost 257 on the northern Champaign County border.
Patrol officers saturated the interstate, enforcing Illinois Vehicle Code violations, especially speeding. Officers also focused on Motor Carrier Safety Inspections for commercial motor vehicles. The Illinois State police’s goal is to decrease fatal and personal injury crashes on the interstate.
During this specific patrol saturation, there were no fatal crashes, and only five accident reports filed for all 257 miles of Interstate 57.
A few other results:
- Speeding citations issued: 500
- Speeding warnings issued: 484
- Motor Carrier Safety Inspections: 198
- Move Over “Scott’s Law” Citations Issued: 16

If a driver is stopped for not following that law, they face a fine of between $250 and $10,000 for a first offense.
