URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – Local law enforcement agencies are teaming up with the Eastern Illinois Foodbank (EIF) to battle hunger in the community. This year’s “Protect & Feed” campaign, a friendly competition among six local departments, aims to raise meals for families in need during the holiday season.
Building on the success of last year’s “Stuff the Squad” campaign, this year’s expanded initiative includes the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, Champaign Police Department, Parkland College Police Department, Rantoul Police Department, University of Illinois Police Department, and the Urbana Police Department.
Since early November, these departments have been collecting food donations and raising funds to support EIF, culminating in a high-energy food repacking showdown on Giving Tuesday, December 3. The departments will face off in three competitive shifts at the EIF Volunteer Center to repack donated food items for distribution.
“This campaign is a powerful way to bring our community together during the holiday season,” said an EIF representative. “These officers are going above and beyond their duties to ensure local families have access to meals. It’s inspiring to see them channel their competitive spirit into something so impactful.”
The coveted “Protect & Feed” trophy will go to the department that contributes the most meals, with totals calculated based on dollars raised and pounds of food donated and repacked. Community members are encouraged to cheer on their favorite department and contribute to the campaign by donating to the foodbank.
