SPRINGFIELD, IL (Chambana Today) – Two new Illinois laws, effective starting in 2025, are making significant changes aimed at improving the state’s childcare workforce and simplifying the process of canceling gym memberships.
Aimed at tackling staffing challenges in the childcare industry, a new law signed last week by Governor J.B. Pritzker seeks to improve the recruitment and retention of educators and childcare providers. The measure modifies the State Comprehensive Day Care Plan survey to include input from a broader range of experts in the childcare field.
The updated survey will collect feedback every four years at a minimum, and the 2025 cycle will be the first to include input from a wider array of professionals. The law also emphasizes the importance of listening to the concerns of childcare professionals in order to create a more robust and sustainable workforce.
Meanwhile, a new law also going into effect on January 1st is designed to make canceling gym memberships much easier for Illinois residents. The amendment to the Physical Fitness Services Act allows gym members to cancel their memberships by phone, email, or through a gym’s website, instead of requiring in-person cancellations or certified mail.
For years, gyms have made it difficult for members to cancel, often forcing them to visit the gym in person or mail in a cancellation request through certified mail. This was especially problematic for those who had moved away or couldn’t easily visit the gym. The new law aims to make the process more straightforward and less time-consuming. Under the new law, gyms must also provide written confirmation of cancellation, either by certified mail or email, if the member provided an email address when signing up.
Both laws reflect a growing push to make essential services in Illinois more accessible and user-friendly for residents.
