CHAMPAIGN-URBANA (Chambana Today) – Champaign and Urbana have set days for Christmas tree pick up, but the storm may have impacted that schedule. For the City of Urbana, there is a delay in Christmas tree collection this week due to weather conditions. Residents are reminded that Christmas trees will be collected on their regular U-Cycle collection day, but with a one-day delay.
To ensure timely pickup, Urbana residents are encouraged to set their Christmas trees curbside the night before their scheduled U-Cycle day, as crews may arrive earlier than expected. Updates on the collection schedule will be posted on the City of Urbana’s website and Facebook pages.
As a reminder, residents must remove all stands, lights, ornaments, tinsel, and bags from their Christmas trees. Trees should be placed curbside, visible from the street, and not buried under snow.
The City of Champaign pick up will take place on Monday, January 13. This free service is available to all residential properties within the city limits.
Residents are asked to place their trees at the curb by 6 a.m. on January 13 for collection. Trees should be placed within four feet of the curb to ensure pickup. Collected trees will be chipped into garden mulch for recycling.
To ensure trees are properly collected, please remember to remove all stands, decorations, tinsel, lights, artificial snow, plastic bags, garland, or any other materials that may make the tree non-recyclable. Trees that are undecorated and unflocked may also be dropped off at the Landscape Recycling Center at 1210 E. University Avenue in Urbana for free disposal during January and February.
Please note that holiday tree collections will not be done by zone. All trees must be at the curb by 6 a.m. on January 13, and while the collection is weather-dependent, the City of Champaign aims to pick up trees as quickly as possible.
