The managing partner of a company set to redevelop the former Hen House restaurant property in Mahomet has revealed plans for a multi-tenant site. The beloved Mahomet eatery was recently demolished.
“We’re envisioning a building accommodating three or four tenants,” stated managing partner Brooks Marsh of Champaign. “These tenants will include both regional and national entities, enriching the Mahomet community.”
Marsh declined to disclose the identities of the new tenants at this time. However, he anticipates construction to commence in a few months.
“We’re aiming to begin construction in June,” Marsh revealed. “Engineers will be onsite on Monday to finalize plans now that the previous structure has been cleared.”
The redevelopment of the 1-acre Hen House site marks just the initial phase of a larger project.
Marsh elaborated, stating, “This is just the beginning of our development plans for the 6-acre parcel we own at this exit. Future phases will include lodging options and quick-service restaurants, both national and regional.”
With existing fuel stations and a Schnucks fresh supermarket nearby, Marsh envisions the area becoming a hub for both travelers and local residents.
Despite the anticipation surrounding these developments, there’s a hint of nostalgia among local residents.
For many, the Hen House held sentimental value, serving as a cornerstone of the Mahomet community for over five decades.
Marsh shared a personal connection to the establishment, noting his friendship with the late Larry Rugg, the previous owner, who once operated numerous locations across the Midwest.
