CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – On February 26th, Healthy Champaign County will host the 3rd Annual Feeding Champaign County Food Summit at the I Hotel and Illinois Conference Center in Champaign. The summit aims to address the growing issue of food insecurity in the county, where over 25,000 residents, including nearly 20% children, regularly face challenges accessing nutritious food.

The event will bring together community leaders, organizations, and individuals from various sectors to explore causes of food insecurity, inspire new partnerships, and develop actionable strategies to combat food security issues. Keynote speaker Dr. Bobby J. Smith II, Associate Professor in African American Studies at the University of Illinois, will discuss the historical and contemporary relationships Black communities have with food and agriculture.

Workshops will focus on actionable steps for future programs, while a Resource Fair will provide an opportunity for attendees to network and share information about ongoing efforts to improve food access. The event is sponsored by Healthy Champaign County and its partners, including the University of Illinois, OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center, and United Way of Champaign County. Registration is required, and more information can be found at bit.ly/FoodSummit2025.
