Experience Champaign-Urbana hosting African American Heritage Bus Tour

The tour takes place on Friday, June 13, to celebrate Juneteenth. The tour gives participants an opportunity to explore significant African American landmarks in the region, with stories, landmarks, and contributions in the community. Downtown Champaign hosting Friday Night Live

Friday Night Live is a free free street-side performance series featuring multiple bands every week. It will be held every Friday from 6:00p.m. to 9:00 p.m. starting May 30 through August 22. Performances will be held at the intersections of Main & Fremont, Neil & Park, One Main Plaza, and Market & Taylor in Downtown Champaign. Friday Night Live includes a mix of rock, folk, bluegrass, jazz, R&B, funk, hip-hop, country, indie, and blues.

Danville juvenile arrested for three illegal firearms

Officers conducted an investigation on Saturday, May 24, at around 4:30 p.m. regarding information involving subjects with firearms. Their lead directed them to an apartment in the 1600 block of Edgewood in “The Grove” apartment complex. The officers made contact with several subjects in the apartment, which led to further investigation. With help from the Vermilion County State’s Attorney’s Office, Danville Officers obtained a Vermilion County search warrant for the same apartment.

Urbana Police respond to armed subject after road rage incident

The happened on May 24, on North Cunningham Avenue and the victim reported being threatened with a firearm by the offender. During the investigation, Urbana Police collaborated with the University of Illinois Police Department to use their automated license plate reader system. It allowed them to quickly identify a vehicle connected to the incident. The plate reader information was shared with the surrounding agencies, leading the Rantoul Police Department to locate the vehicle in the 200 block of West Frost Street in Rantoul.

Aimee Heeter becoming vice chancellor for finance at UIUC

She earned a doctorate in higher education finance, a master’s degree in education and a bachelor’s degree in journalism, from Indiana University. The new title brings the UIUC campus in line with similar positions at the two other campuses at the University of Illinois System. The duties and reporting lines of the position, however, still remain the same.
