Black Violin: Full Circle Tour coming to the Virginia Theatre

Public transit in Chicago heading towards major funding crisis

Illinois lawmakers say they are close to agreeing on a reform plan that would keep the CTA, Metra, and Pace operating separately, while giving more power to the RTA, which currently oversees regional transit finances. This plan, backed by organized labor and often referred to as the “labor plan,” is gaining traction and is seen as a realistic and politically feasible solution.

Pint of Science festival launches in Champaign-Urbana

The festival is open to the local community, including science enthusiasts and curious minds. Participants can grab a drink and dive into the groundbreaking research at the Pint of Science Festival presented by researchers from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The festival takes place from May 19 to 20. Each evening starts at 7:00 p.m. at the Cowboy Monkey and Gallery Art Bar, with more information below. Meadowbrook Park hosting the PrairiePlay celebration

The celebration will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Workers took down the 28-year-old PrairiePlay on March 2024 to begin construction on the new, inclusive and accessible playground for the community. The playground opened in October of 2024. Urbana parks will be celebrating the first spring and summer of the new PrairiePlay.

CURE hosting its second march and rally at the Champaign County Courthouse

The rally and march lasts one hour and coincides with Mother’s Day. Families are encouraged to march peacefully with or in honor of their mothers. The event starts at 10:00 a.m. on the North side of the courthouse at 101 E. Main St., Urbana. There will be several speakers, followed by a short march to Lincoln Square and the U.S. District courthouse. Participants are encouraged to bring their signs, voices, and enthusiasm.

The Parkland Orchestra will be performing on Sunday, May 11 at 3:00 p.m. at Centennial High School’s Aldridge Auditorium. They will perform “The First Day of Spring” by Leroy Anderson, “Oboe Concertino, Op. 110” by Johann Wenzel Kalliwoda, “Variations on a Shaker Melody” by Aaron Copland, “Russian Easter Overture” by Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov and arranged by Sandra Dackow, “(Up)Lifted” by Brian Balmages, and music from “West Side Story” by Leonard Bernstein with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
