Emergency responders reported to the scene, and traffic in the area was diverted for a short time as officers work to determine the cause of the collision.

Mahomet man cited for Scott’s Law violation after hitting stopped squad car

A Mahomet man was cited for a Scott’s Law violation after Illinois State Police said he struck a stopped squad car on March 1 near Chebanse. The incident occurred when a State Police trooper responded to debris in the road on I-57 at approximately 2 p.m. The trooper parked in the right lane with emergency lights flashing and was removing the debris when the Lincoln SUV driven by 66-year-old Harold McComb of Mahomet hit the squad car from behind.
