CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The 16th Annual Prom Benefit for the Eastern Illinois Foodbank, held Saturday night, raised crucial funds to support the fight against food insecurity, providing over 381,000 meals to individuals in need. The event, which continues to be a beloved tradition in the community, saw attendees celebrating with a Mardi Gras theme and a night of fun, all while supporting a vital cause.

According to the Foodbank, more than 100,000 people in eastern Illinois are currently facing food insecurity, and in the past year, the number of individuals seeking assistance from the Foodbank’s network of pantries has surged by 90%.

Established in 2008 by community member Lorianne Bauer, the Prom Benefit is a key fundraiser for the Foodbank. Over the years, it has become an event that not only provides much-needed resources but also brings together the community for a festive, memorable evening. Managed by the Foodbank with the support of dedicated volunteers, the event has grown into one of the most anticipated fundraisers in the region.

This year’s Mardi Gras theme brought a lively atmosphere to the event, with beads, New Orleans-inspired decorations, and plenty of fun. Attendees enjoyed a night of dancing, a photo booth, hors d’oeuvres, desserts, and a silent auction with a variety of items to bid on. The evening’s highlight was the crowning of the Prom King and Queen, who were chosen as the top fundraisers for the event — Katie Harlan from The McDonald Group – Powered by Realty Select One and Vilma Howard from HowardHold Insurance Group. Illini Media Group (IMG)’s Tommy Bickman was up for Prom King, and IMG’s Duane Shannon was the night’s master of ceremonies.

The funds raised will go directly toward helping the Foodbank provide meals for families and individuals in need, with the goal of alleviating hunger in eastern Illinois. To continue community support for this important mission, visit here.
