ST. JOSEPH, IL (Chambana Today) – An 18-year-old male from St. Joseph was killed in a single-vehicle crash Thursday morning, July 10, at the intersection of County Road 1380 North (Homer Lake Road) and County Road 2400 East.
According to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the crash shortly after it was reported. St. Joseph-Stanton Fire/Rescue also responded to assist at the scene.
When first responders arrived, they found a heavily damaged vehicle and confirmed that the sole occupant had died from the crash. Preliminary findings indicate the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a utility pole.
The Champaign County Coroner’s Office is withholding the identity of the deceased pending notification of the family. The incident remains under investigation by both the Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner’s Office.
