CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – A 22-year-old Urbana man is recovering in the hospital after being shot early Saturday morning in a parking lot on the city’s north side, according to the Champaign Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of North Third Street at approximately 2:24 a.m. following reports of gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, police found the man suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. Officers, with assistance from the Champaign Fire Department, administered emergency medical aid before the victim was transported to a local hospital. He remains in stable condition.

Investigators believe the incident involved an exchange of gunfire between unknown individuals. The shooters had fled the area before police arrived. Officers recovered shell casings and observed property damage to two nearby buildings and one vehicle.

No additional injuries were reported, and as of this morning, no arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing, and Champaign Police are continuing to canvass the area for witnesses and surveillance footage.
