CHAMPAIGN, IL (CHAMBANA TODAY)– In an ongoing effort to keep our community liter-free, the City of Urbana is excited to announce that Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority from the University of Illinois will be the tenth organization to commit to adopting an area of Urbana. The area they’ve adopted is North Goodwin Avenue between Fairview and Bradley Avenue. With this area being located in the Dr. Ellis Subdivision and a designated part of the Champaign County African American Heritage Trail, the City of Urbana is excited to have Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority as a partner in helping keep this area liter-free. Through the Adopt Urbana program agreement, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority pledges to conduct cleanup activities in this area at least three times a year for two years.
The Adopt Urbana program encourages volunteer groups to clean-up litter from the streets of Urbana, promoting cleanliness throughout the City’s rights-of-way. This program provides a great opportunity for civic, social, educational, commercial, and religious organizations to get involved in a citywide project that benefits us all. And, the Urbana Public Works Department provides all of the needed supplies such as grabber sticks, large trash bags, gloves, safety vests and picks up the full trash bags after a cleanup.
