CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – A 35-year-old Champaign man was fatally shot late Saturday night in Danville, Illinois. Joseph Jones, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, was pronounced dead at the scene near the intersection of Collett and Williams streets, according to the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office.

Danville police responded to the scene at approximately 11 p.m. Saturday after receiving a report of a person lying on the ground. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Jones unresponsive and immediately attempted first aid. However, their efforts were unsuccessful, and he was declared dead at the scene.

Authorities have released few details about the incident, and investigators are seeking the public’s help in solving the case. “Little to no information has been provided to police about this incident,” Danville police said in a Sunday news release. “We are asking anyone with knowledge of the events leading up to the shooting to come forward.”

The area around Collett and Williams streets remains under investigation, and police have not yet identified any suspects or persons of interest. Officers have not disclosed any potential motives for the shooting.

Jones, who was from Champaign, was in Danville at the time of the incident, but officials have not provided further details about why he was in the area.
