CHAMPAIGN, IL (CHAMBANA TODAY)- Being a student-athlete is no easy feat. It requires commitment, perseverance, and a true passion for sports. Academy High School Senior Sophia Libman, Senior Eleanor Laufenberg, and Junior Jack Braun have exemplified these qualities and more, standing out as shining examples of dedication and talent. Their achievements at the 2024 Academy High School Athletic Banquet not only highlighted their capabilities but also served as a source of inspiration for their peers.

Sophia Libman’s remarkable accomplishments as a three-sport athlete resulted in her receiving the esteemed ISHA Scholastic Achievement Award and being honored as Academy High School’s Athlete of the Year, showcasing her impressive skills and unwavering commitment. Additionally, Senior Eleanor Laufenberg was recognized for her outstanding performance as a three-sport athlete and earned the IHSA Scholastic Achievement Award. Both Libman and Laufenberg were members of the girls’ basketball and cross-country teams and participants in track and field. Junior Jack Braun, a cross-country runner, and track and field team member was also honored with the ISHA Scholastic Achievement Award, demonstrating resilience and a competitive spirit in sports.

Academy High School Athletic Director Sidney Leskis pointed out that being a student-athlete demands hard work, dedication, and a positive attitude. “These qualities are not only essential for success in sports but also for personal growth and development.
