CHATHAM, IL (Chambana Today) – The Sangamon County Coroner has released the names of four individuals killed in a tragic crash at an after-school program in Chatham.
Seven-year-olds Kathryn Corley and Alma Buhnerkempe, eight-year-old Ainsley Johnson, and 18-year-old Rylee Britton died when a vehicle drove through the building hosting their after-school program. All four were pronounced dead at the scene from multiple blunt force injuries. Six other children were hospitalized, one in critical condition.
The driver, 44-year-old Marianne Akers, was uninjured and is undergoing evaluation at a local hospital. Authorities believe the crash was not intentional. The Illinois State Police and Chatham Police Department are investigating the incident.
