URBANA, IL (CHAMBANATODAY)– On Saturday, March 16th, 2024 at about 12:20 PM, Urbana officers responded to the 1800 block
of Cottage Grove for a report of shots heard. Officers arrived and discovered that nobody was injured, but located a total of 13 shell casings in the vicinity. The casings were recovered near Colorado & Cottage Grove, while others were recovered in the 1100 block of Colorado Avenue. A resident in the 1800 block of Cottage Grove found that their residence had been struck by a single bullet. One other unoccupied residence was struck, along with a vehicle in a nearby parking lot. Witnesses described a dark SUV speeding in the area after the shooting.
The motive for the shooting is unknown and the investigation into this incident is ongoing. Urbana Police ask that anyone who has additional information please call 217-384-2320.
