URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – Every year, on the exact date and time of Ross Booker’s passing, Tatman’s Towing leads a heartfelt procession through town to honor the young man whose life was cut short while doing his job.
Thursday evening, the procession took a route past the site of the accident that claimed Ross’s life and ended at his final resting place. Ross Booker, just 20 years old, was hit and killed on March 5, 2022, while clearing debris from a previous crash at Windsor Avenue and Neil Street in Champaign. He was working as a tow truck driver for Tatman’s Towing at the time.
In addition to his work as a tow truck driver, Ross was also a volunteer firefighter with the St. Joseph-Stanton Fire Protection District.
The procession, which has taken place each year on the anniversary of Ross’s passing, also raises awareness for Scott’s Law, which mandates that drivers slow down and move over when they encounter flashing lights. This law doesn’t just apply to emergency vehicles, but also from any vehicle with flashing lights on the side of the road.
