CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (Chambana Today) — A head-on crash on U.S. Route 136 early Wednesday morning has left at least one person dead, according to the Illinois State Police.
The collision occurred at approximately 6:19 a.m. between the Champaign/McLean County line and County Road 100 East. ISP officials confirmed that two vehicles collided head-on, resulting in at least one fatality. Authorities have not yet released the total number of people injured or killed.
As a result of the crash, U.S. 136 is expected to remain closed for several hours in both directions between the county line and County Road 100 East. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
Meanwhile, the area is also experiencing power outages, with nearly 2,300 customers in Macon and DeWitt Counties currently without electricity. It’s not immediately clear if the outages are related to the crash.
