RANTOUL, IL (CHAMBANA TODAY)- Joel McCallister has made drastic improvements during this track season. This year he has set multiple PRs in his events every meet this year. This is after he during the football season suffered a devastating injury in the 1st game in the season when someone rolled up on him and broke both bones in his lower leg. Joel is evidence that hard work can get you over any obstacle.
What got you into your sport, how long have you been involved?
“I was introduced to Track and Field my 8th-grade year of middle school just for something to do during the Spring, I have been competing for 3 years, 2 years in high school and 1 in middle school.”
What is your favorite part of the sport?
“My favorite part of discus and shot put is that it keeps me in a battle between me and myself to be better and get a new PR at the next meet.”
Who has been a great support system or role model to you?
“My Father has been a great support for me in getting me to be better than before, always showing up to meets when he can make it and helping me get better everyday.”
Who is one of your sports idols?
“My biggest sports idol is Kris Bryant.”
What are you most proud of this season?
“I am most proud of being the best shot put thrower on my team after a devastating leg injury months earlier in September.”
