Academy High, located in Champaign, is an independent college-preparatory secondary school.

CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Academy High School Junior, Sorin Best-Popescu, is the type of student-athlete you want on your team. He loves the sport, but he loves supporting his teammates even more.

Best-Popescu says, “All of my appreciation for running makes introducing younger students into high school cross country a truly fulfilling experience. At the end of the day, running isn’t about the distance or the pace, but perseverance in the face of self-doubt and the friends you make along the way!”

So far this season, the Boys’ Cross-Country team has raced at Clinton High School and Chrisman High School.

His coach, Academy Athletic Director Sidney Leskis, says Academy’s sports programs promote the development of positive attitudes and habits in the student-athletes as well as skills that they can apply both in and outside of the classroom. Best-Popescu is living proof of those values. He uses his time running to discover who he is, as much as he enjoys watching his teammates reach their personal and physical goals.

“I love running, because it reminds me of who I am and what I am capable of. Running with a team and seeing my teammates pushing their limits inspires me to do the same and further enjoy the sport.” The team has scheduled meets at Monticello, Heritage, Paxton, and the Twin Cities.
