CHAMPAIGN, IL (CHAMBANA TODAY)- Marley Yau just set a new freshman 800M record at the elite event known as Morton Distance Gala, running 2:22.23 this month. Marley has been sitting atop the Sectional rankings all outdoor season in her individual events, as well as being a pivotal member of the girls 4x800M that has just run a State qualifying time.
What got you into your sport, how long have you been involved?
1 I’ve been running for about four years. I’ve played sports all my life and they all involved some type of running which became my favorite part. So in sixth grade, I tried track and ever since then, it has stuck with me and I love it!
What is your favorite part of the sport?
2. My favorite part about running is getting to race. I love racing and competing, getting that rush of adrenaline is such a thrill and so fun!
Who has been a great support system or role model to you?
3. Coach Boehmke has been a great support to me. Also my teammates because they’re always there for me and I know I can count on them no matter what.
Who is one of your sports idols?
4. Ali Ince, I’m actually obsessed with her.
What are you most proud of this season?
5. This season I am most proud of where my confidence has been, for truly believing in myself, and how far I’ve grown mentally and physically. I am also proud of how far our 4×8 has gotten.
