CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – A new wings restaurant opened in the heart of Campustown, at 622 E. Green St., on Saturday. Atomic Wings opened its first Big 10 location, and one of the only locations on a major college campus. Owner Kavita Venkatesh fell in love with Champaign-Urbana while her daughter – a recent U of I graduate – was a student here.
The wings and signature sauces are “fresh, never frozen,” and they also use hormone-free chicken. Each order is prepared after the customer orders – no heat lamps are used. Atomic Wings offers 15 sauces homemade on site daily.

Atomic Wings began in 1989 in New York City, founded by Adam Lippin. Current owner and CEO, Zak Omar, was on hand for the opening on Saturday. He joined the brand seven years ago, after spending time franchising other businesses. The wing chain currently has 11 units in the Northeast, with 16 more stores in development.
The sought-after wings have been featured in national publications, including CNN Business, Crain’s New York Business, Business Insider, and Fox Business to name a few.
Take-out is currently available through their website. For a full menu and store hours, visit www.atomicwings/com/locations/champaign-il
