BEMENT WATER UPDATE: Water restored in Bement after two-day outage but boil order remains

The lack of water had forced many in the community to adjust, affecting everything from routine activities to vital needs.

The boil order in effect for Bement has been officially lifted. The order, which had been in place since Saturday due to a water main break, was removed after water samples taken from the town were tested and confirmed safe for consumption. According to Mayor Bob Stevens, the results were released on Wednesday, and the water supply was deemed safe. The town’s contractor oversaw the testing and removal of the order. Bement residents can now safely use their tap water once again.

BEMENT, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Running water has been restored to the Village of Bement, but residents will remain under a boil order until at least Wednesday.

According to the village, the water pressure has been restored to within five pounds per square inch of normal. The water tower is also continuing to fill, with Stevens expecting it to reach full capacity by Tuesday.

Despite this progress, the boil order will remain in place until water samples are tested for safety. Stevens said testing will be conducted on Tuesday, with results expected on Wednesday. If the test results are negative, the boil order could extend by another two days.

In the meantime, a water tanker will remain available at the Lion’s Club from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. for residents in need of clean water.

The village, which had been without running water for two days due to a water main break, continues to work with local authorities and volunteers to support the community during this ongoing situation.
