CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – A documentary that chronicles the 100-year history of Memorial Stadium at the University of Illinois will debut tonight on the Big Ten Network. “A House of Brick: 100 Years of Memorial Stadium” will run tonight 9:30 p.m. The 30-minute documentary, narrated by Illinois alum Ryan Baker, showcases the planning, creation, and lifespan of Memorial Stadium.
Memorial Stadium’s Dedication Game occurred against Michigan on Oct. 18, 1924, when Illini Red Grange scored four touchdowns in the first 12 minutes to beat the previously undefeated Wolverines. Saturday’s game against Michigan, which kicks off at 2:30 p.m. will take place 100 years and one day after Grange’s iconic performance.
Illinois is also honoring the history of Memorial Stadium with a free pop-up museum in the Great West Hall, the Memorial Stadium 100th Anniversary logo painted on the 25-yard lines, and a variety of commemorative cups sold at concessions matching the eras celebrated by the Illini helmets for each game.
Saturday’s game against Michigan is sold out. In addition to the game, Illinois has a full slate of events for the Rededication weekend, which begin on Thursday, October 17. To view a complete schedule of the weekend’s events, click here.
