CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — A blast of arctic air is settling into Champaign County, bringing bone‑chilling cold and chances for snow through the weekend.
Friday will be brutally cold, with highs near 6 below and lows falling toward 2 below, making outdoor activities dangerous without proper protection. Saturday stays frigid with highs near 12 above and a chance of light snow in the afternoon. Sunday brings periods of morning snow and continued cold, with highs around 14 above and overnight lows near zero. In all three days, extended time outside could lead to frostbite or hypothermia, and unprotected pipes may freeze.
Residents are advised to dress in layers, limit time outdoors, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets. Snow accumulations are expected to be light, but travel could still be slippery at times.
