RANTOUL, IL (Chambana Today) – Authorities in Rantoul are investigating after a body was discovered in Heritage Lake.
According to the Rantoul Police Department, a kayaker came across the body around 6 a.m. Emergency responders from Rantoul Police and Fire Departments arrived on the scene, along with a dive team from the Cornbelt Fire Protection District.
Most emergency crews had cleared the area by 7:30 a.m., though investigators remained at the lake past 9 a.m. to gather evidence and determine what happened. Rantoul Police Chief Tony Brown stated the investigation is in its early stages and that details are still limited.
The identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the discovery have not been released. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Rantoul police as the investigation continues.
