URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – The race for Urbana mayor is heating up as the two Democratic candidates, DeShawn Williams and Annie Adams, faced off in front of a packed audience on Sunday. The mayoral candidate forum, held at St. Matthews Church, drew a large crowd to hear the candidates’ platforms and visions for the city.

The forum began with both candidates delivering their opening statements before diving into a series of 60 questions submitted by community members online. The candidates discussed a wide range of topics, including funding plans, city services, and how to best engage the youth of Urbana. The candidates took turns addressing each question, offering contrasting views on how best to lead the city forward. Topics ranged from the allocation of city resources to improving public safety and fostering youth involvement in community decision-making.

Annie Adams, one of the candidates, emphasized her commitment to making Urbana a safe, connected, and affordable city for all residents. DeShawn Williams, who also made inclusivity a key part of his platform, echoed similar sentiments.

As the forum concluded, both candidates gave their closing statements, reflecting on the shared vision they have for Urbana’s future and calling on voters to support them in the upcoming election. Urbana’s primary elections will take place on February 25, 2025.
