MATTOON, IL (Chambana Today) – One person is dead and another critically injured after a car crashed into a nursing home in Mattoon earlier today. The incident occurred at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home, where both victims were in the same room at the time of the crash. Authorities say the two were pinned against a wall upon impact.
According to Mattoon Police and Fire officials, the vehicle was traveling on Logan Avenue and failed to turn at the T-intersection with Lafayette Avenue. Instead, it continued through a field and into the nursing home, causing severe damage and tragedy inside.
The driver, who remained coherent following the crash, was not injured but was taken to the hospital for testing. Police say the driver is cooperating with the ongoing investigation and is not currently under arrest.
