CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Carle Health has announced it will discontinue its Medicare Advantage plans under Health Alliance by December 31, 2025, marking a significant shift in its insurance operations and affecting over 33,000 members. This comes just months after the health system revealed it would also be phasing out its broader Health Alliance insurance plans by the end of this year.
Coverage for current Medicare Advantage members will remain unchanged through December 2025. The decision to fully exit the insurance market follows what Carle described as a comprehensive strategic and financial review.
Medicare Advantage, which is a private alternative to traditional Medicare, covers individuals 65 and older or those with certain disabilities. While Carle previously planned to continue offering these plans, the new decision reverses that course.
Carle has assured members that they will provide support and resources during the Annual Election Period to help patients transition to new plans. Affected individuals can visit ChooseCarleHealth.org for more information when enrollment season begins.
Carle also maintains partnerships with other Medicare Advantage providers and says patients wishing to stay connected with their Carle care teams will receive guidance throughout the process. The health system’s insurance exit comes as Carle prepares for staff layoffs in Champaign beginning in July.
