CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) says that it received numerous reports of scam calls last week.

CCSO says these individuals are calling unsuspecting victims and posing as either a deputy from its agency or a US Marshal. They say that these callers claim that you have missed a court hearing and now have a warrant out for your arrest and may even go as far as to suggest that you can resolve the warrant by paying a certain amount of money.

CCSO mentions an individual who visited its office with a document that was allegedly sent to him by the scam caller as “evidence” of the warrant. Despite its convincing appearance, officials say this document is not authentic.

Should you receive a call of this nature, it is crucial that you refrain from disclosing any personal information or sending any money.  Immediately contact CCSO,
