CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign Fire Department (CFD) was called to respond to a fire at an apartment building located in the 500 block of E. Columbia Ave. on Monday, July 1 at 11:36 p.m.

Firefighters worked to put out the fire that had broken out inside the eight-unit apartment building. Upon receiving a report from a passerby about the fire at the multi-family residence, firefighters arrived at the scene to find the fire spreading rapidly. They entered the building to assess the situation and discovered a fire in the attic that was quickly spreading. Multiple hose lines were deployed as firefighters tackled the blaze. Eventually, a defensive strategy was adopted, and aerial ladder devices were used to bring the fire under control.

The fire was determined to be accidental and caused by energized electrical equipment. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the firefighters or occupants. However, the occupants will need to find alternative accommodation due to the damage caused by the fire.
