CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign City Council will vote on December 3 to appoint Joan Walls as the next city manager. With 24 years of dedicated service to Champaign, including 11 years as Deputy City Manager, Joan ready to step into retiring city manager, Dorothy David’s shoes.

Walls joined the city in 2000 as Assistant to the Chief for Community Services. She has served as Deputy City Manager since 2013. Prior to that, she was the Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Vermilion County. Walls has held leadership roles in such organizations as ILCMA, Big 10 Cities Network, and METCAD 911 Policy Board.

Mayor Deborah Frank Feinen shared, “Joan’s passion for this community and her leadership skills make her the perfect choice to move Champaign forward.”

Walls is looking forward to leading in this capacity. “It’s an honor to be considered for this role. I look forward to continuing to serve our growing community alongside our incredible City staff.”

If appointed, Joan Walls will officially begin her role as City Manager on December 21.
