CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, IL (Chambana Today) – Illinois State Police have charged a Champaign County Sheriff’s deputy with felony theft following an investigation into financial misconduct involving a police support nonprofit.

On Thursday, ISP’s Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 5 issued a Notice to Appear to 40-year-old Matthew Stuckey, ordering him to appear in Champaign County court on May 22, 2025. Stuckey is charged with Theft of Property over $10,000 but less than $100,000, a Class 2 felony.

The investigation began in November 2024 after allegations surfaced regarding the misuse of funds donated to the 10-78 Foundation — also known as Back the Blue Champaign County. According to ISP, Stuckey, one of the organization’s founders, is accused of making transactions consistent with personal use.

Stuckey remains employed as a deputy with the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office. ISP says the investigation is ongoing and encourages anyone with information to contact Zone 5 Investigations at 217-278-5000. The case will be forwarded to the Champaign County State’s Attorney’s Office upon completion.
