RANTOUL TOWNSHIP (CHAMBANA TODAY) – On April 15, 2024, at approximately 5:12 p.m., the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office and the Rantoul Police Department responded to a report of a shooting near the intersections of 3200 North and County Road 1800 East, Rantoul Township. Officers of the Rantoul Police Department arrived on scene and discovered a 24-year-old male (from Rantoul) who was shot in the upper torso. Rantoul Police Officers immediately started life saving measures. The male was transported to Carle Foundation Hospital where he later succumbed to the injuries he sustained from the shooting.
The victim’s name will be released by the Champaign County Coroner’s Office once notifications
are made to the decedent’s family.
Sheriff’s Investigators continue to actively investigate this murder and believe the victim was
targeted.
