CHAMPAIGN COUNTY – (Chambana Today) – Earlier today, Champaign County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident at 1200 E and 2500 N in Condit Township. When sheriff’s deputies arrived around 7:25 am., they started an investigation that revealed a passenger car hit a pickup truck by disregarding a stop sign. The passenger car (Unit 1) was driven by a 33-year-old male from Elliott, IL. He was Southbound on 1200 E when he ran a stop sign at the intersection of 2500 N, striking Unit 2, a Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck with an attached trailer.
The driver of Unit 1 was extricated from the vehicle and later died because of injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of Unit 2 did not seek medical treatment.
This crash remains under investigation by Champaign County Sheriff accident reconstruction deputies. The name of the driver of Unit 1 is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
This is the third fatality accident investigated by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office in the past few weeks. Sheriff Heuerman reminds motorists to be “aware and undistracted” when they are operating a motor vehicle. Deputies will be increasing their enforcement of traffic violations between now and the end of the year.
