Champaign IL (CHAMBANA TODAY)– On Monday, April 29, 2024, at approximately 1:40pm, Champaign County Sheriff’s deputies observed a vehicle in the 800-block of Bloomington Road, Champaign, that had fled from police in Kankakee County earlier in the day. Upon attempting to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, the vehicle fled from the Champaign County Sheriff’s deputy. The vehicle entered I-74 Eastbound and continued at a high rate of speed. At approximately 1:44pm on I-74 at approximately mile post 185, the suspect vehicle reportedly “rammed” the deputy’s squad car. The suspect vehicle then became disabled when it struck a semi-truck that was also Eastbound.

A search of the vehicle yielded two handguns, an extended magazine, and a rifle. One of the firearms had the serial
number defaced and the other was a firearm commonly referred to as a “ghost gun”.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Anthony Adams, 19, Sun River Terrace (IL), was arrested for Aggravated Unlawful

Use of a Weapon and Aggravated Fleeing & Eluding and was taken to the Champaign County Jail. Also taken into
custody was a female, juvenile passenger who was later released to her parent.
The Sheriff’s deputy was treated for minor injuries. No other injuries resulted from the incident. The Illinois State
Police and Urbana Police Department assisted the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office with this incident.
