URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office has named the recipients of the 2024 Deputy of the Year, Correctional Officer of the Year, and Court Security Officer of the Year awards. These distinguished awards are given based on peer nominations and recommendations, ultimately recognizing the exceptional efforts and dedication of the Sheriff’s Office personnel.

Sheriff Dustin Heuerman expressed his pride and gratitude for the exceptional service these officers provide to the community. “Reviewing the nominations and recommendations of these individuals, I’m proud to have them serving Champaign County residents and excited to see what their futures will bring,” Not only is this a recognition by the Sheriff’s Office, but more importantly, a recognition of their good work by their peers.”

Deputy Kyle Sellek was honored as the Deputy of the Year for his dedication to training new deputies and his work in locating discarded firearms, as well as subjects fleeing from traffic stops. He shares credit with his K9 partner, Pongo. His peers commend him for being knowledgeable, hardworking, and humble.

Officer Nickole Johnson was awarded the Correctional Officer of the Year for her efforts in training new officers and her exemplary work ethic. She is recognized for being hardworking, organized, and a positive example in the Corrections division.

Officer Dylan Bullard was recognized as the Court Security Officer of the Year for his impressive leadership and training within the Court Security team. His peers have described him as being very mindful of security and confident in addressing issues with fellow officers.
