URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office held its annual awards ceremony at the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System Training Center in Urbana on Wednesday, honoring some of the sheriff’s office’s most outstanding employees over the past year.

The following awards were given:

Life Saving Awards

  • Officers Craig Wakefield, Joseph Johnson, Andrew Pratt, Deon Lewis, and Sergeant Nicholas Roberts were given the Life Saving Award for their efforts in helping an inmate recover from an attempted suicide.
  • Officer Joseph Johnson received a second Life Saving Award for his role in helping an inmate from an attempted hanging.
  • Officer Trevan Garrett was given the award for his role in helping prevent what could have been a fatal choking incident. Thanks to his efforts, the food was dislodged from the subject’s throat.

Certificates of Recognition

  • Investigators Deron Brize and Travis Wilson received certificates of recognition for their role in successfully identifying a homicide suspect.
  • Evidence custodian Thad Trimble was also awarded a certificate of recognition by Heuerman for his efforts over the past several years for keeping evidence organized and in transitioning the sheriff’s office’s relocation.
  • Captain Karee Voges, Captain David Sherrick, and Chief Deputy Shannon Barrett were given certificates of recognition efforts in their respective infrastructure projects over the past few years.

Civilian Employee of the Year

  • Records Supervisor Sarah Goodwin

Court Security Officer of the Year

  • Officer Malinda Zellers
